Wall Vases
Grip II is a wall vase combines ceramic with a climbing rope and carabiner, introducing materials usually associated with movement and ascent. Against the rough clay surface they bring an unexpected lightness. The different elements gradually settle into balance, giving the objects a quiet sense of play.
This piece is unglazed, allowing the texture of the clay to stay exposed. It was finished in a pit firing, where flame, smoke, ash, and organic materials leave unpredictable marks permanently embedded in the surface. The interior is sealed with beeswax, making the vase suitable for water in most cases. I recommend using only a small amount and replacing it regularly.
